Staff vs. Contractors

Your staff and your contractor(s) are both critical to your continued successful operation.  Unfortunately, the jobs that each must perform often conflict with the other.

Your staff must be aware that the contractor is there to get a job done as quickly and painlessly as possible to allow them to utilize their new facilities.   There will be times of great inconvenience, but they should never lose sight of the goal.

Your contractor must know that your primary job is taking care of patients.  He or she must be prepared to move work, stop work or come in on off hours as required to complete the job with minimal impact to your staff and patients.

You will receive complaints, probably from everyone (staff, patients and contractors), about the project.  As the manager of the department or entire facility, check to see that apprpriate protections are in-place for patient safety and comfort, the staff's ability to do their jobs, and the contractor's ability to complete the project within the defined time-frame.
