MSHFM Board Meeting
February 19, 2004
MHA-Jefferson City, MO
The meeting was called to order by the president, Doug
Rubles at 10:30 AM. Current board is as follows:
Doug Rubles, President
Dan Everly, President-elect
Dan Eckles, Director
Donna Sprinkles, Director
Mike Bock, Security-Treasure
Financials – As of December 31, 2003, we have
a balance of $3,152.69. Fifty-two members have paid dues for 2004.
Discussed the need to control budget. 2003 ASHE Convention,
MSHFM spent dollars out of our funds instead of seeking corporate
sponsorship. $3100 was spent for travel and $2200 to Clemson University
for environmental service area speaker.
Ideas for improving budget were discussed. We need
to get vendors to support the website, i.e., buttons/links, etc.
We need to start using the website. Button would generate $105 for
3 months for members, $150 for non-members; Banner W.A.D/hyperlink
$175 for 3 month for members and $250 non-members.
Brainstormed “How to improve membership involvement”:
- Quarterly newsletter
- Letter to all members/e-mail
- Get members to use website forum and vendors to
respond the forum.
- Auto e-mail from forum, i.e. all members would
be copied on questions/issues being experienced.
Peg Johnson and Doug Heckel will contact all members
for the following:
- Why are you a member?
- What can we do to improve member participation?
- What type of programs would interest you?
- Have you been to the website lately?
- Are you a member of ASHE?
This should be completed by end of March.
- Board and group approved eliminating paying all
travel expenses in 2004.
- We must have sponsorship for MHA. Everyone present
asked to have one.
We will decide on-line about speaker for May meeting.
If you respond to the NFPA request for comments on
changes in codes, send copy of letter to Doug Rubles. Dan commented
that NFPA 2000 code used by JCAHO, etc, and is informally being
used by DOH. We as a group, maybe even a MHA, should request DOH
adopt 2000 codes. Dan suggested letter from MSHFM president to DOH
department director. Doug Rubles will send letter.
It was suggested having DOH survey as a speaker for
future meeting. We should look at the government as a no-cost presenter
for our meeting. They are more than willing and required, i.e.,
EPA, DOH, DNR. OSHA, etc. Maybe put link to these and other government
agencies on our website. Dan also mentioned Scott Miller with his
firm, ACI Boland, would be more than willing to set up a panel discussion
for future meeting.
The afternoon educational presentation was “Emergency
Generator Compliance”. This program was beneficial to all,
covering current codes and requirements for emergency generator
sets. We thank Peg Johnson, Rick Jennings and Charles Shockley for
sharing information with the group.
Meeting adjourned at 2 PM.
